Play the Spanish El Nino New Years Raffle

The el Niño New Year's Raffle

Regarded as the second biggest draw in Spain, the el Niño raffle offers players a ‘second chance’ to win millions in the event that they failed to take home a sizeable prize in the Christmas draw. The el Niño is also known as ‘Sorteo Extraordinario de El Niño’ or simply ‘the Spanish winter lottery’. It forms part of the super raffles offered in the Loteria Nacional Extra series of raffles.

el Niño Jackpot Information

The name ‘el Niño’ means ‘the small one’ which we think is slightly misleading considering the enormous prize fund available in this raffle. The prize-fund is one of the biggest in the world with values climbing into the many hundreds of millions.

It’s not just the giant prize fund that draws lottery players from all over the world, it’s the fantastic odds. Odds of winning a prize are an amazing 1-in-3 and you can win up to 8 times on a single el Niño ticket.

el Niño believes in sharing the maximum number of prizes between as many players as possible. Please note that 20% tax is applied by the Spanish Government on any winnings over €2,500.00.

How To Play el Niño

If you are familiar with El Gordo de Navidad then you will know what to expect from el Niño.

Players do not choose their numbers but rather purchase pre-numbered tickets, in the same manner as a raffle. The ticket numbers are all 5 digits long and range from 00000 to 99999.

Each number from 00000 to 99999 is printed multiple times in what are known as ‘series’. There will be many series for each number (usually about 50 or 60). Each series exist as a full ticket or “billete” which are then further broken down into “decimos’.

A decimo is effectively one-tenth of a full ticket and means that, should that 5 digit number win a prize, the ticket holder will one-tenth of the prize available. Purchasing a full ticket or billete will ensure 100% of the prize available for the ticket holder.

Winning numbers are drawn for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, along with many other additional prizes. These prize tiers include matching the first and last digits of the winning numbers. Additional prize tiers also exist for matching numbers that are +1 or -1 of the chosen numbers.
