Lottery officials have just announced that the $310 million Powerball sole jackpot winner has come forward to claim their prize!
A news conference has been planned to officially hand over the winning Powerball cheque to the lucky Powerball winner on Tuesday.
The winning ticket was sold at a gas station in Three Rivers, Michigan, for last Wednesday’s gigantic $310 million Powerball jackpot.
Cash or Annuity
It has not yet been released whether or not the latest Powerball winner has opted to receive the cash lump-sum pay-out of approximately $197 million before taxes or the annuity. If the lucky Powerball jackpot winner has opted to receive the annuity, they will be paid out over 30 years.
Powerball winner could be a woman
According to the Detroit Free Press, the winner is a 50 year-old mom from Michigan, and a supervisor at a manufacturing company in Three Rivers. The woman apparently left her third shift job (overnight shift), as soon as she confirmed that she had the winning Powerball ticket and “wasn’t sure if she would be back for her next shift.”
Manager at gas station says she knows her
The manager at the gas station where the winning Powerball ticket was purchased, says that she knows who the winner is but will not reveal her name. The woman is described as a “younger woman and a regular customer.”
According to the current laws, the winner has to reveal their own identity. The reason being, the payout comes from public funds and therefore should be a matter of public record.
At the moment however, if the winner had waited to make their claim, which can take up to a year to do, a new proposed law change could have already been cleared giving lottery winners to option to stay anonymous.
