Since the release of the first James Bond film ‘Dr No’ in 1962 the world has been in awe of the suave, Martini drinking, international spy. Much like the international lotteries available on PlayHugeLottos.com it seems that people simply cannot get enough. Let’s take a look at ten of the most important ‘characters’ in this classic movie franchise, the Bond cars!
It is perhaps every young spy’s dream to one day “roll” in a Bond car. Perhaps they have also dreamed of having one of the beautiful Bond girls in the seat next to them but we will save that for another news item.
AskMen.com recently published a list of the Top Ten Bond Cars in anticipation of the upcoming Bond film ‘Skyfall’ starring Daniel Craig.
Below we take a look at numbers 10 through to 6 on their comprehensive list.
10. Aston Martin DB5 - Goldfinger
Regarded by many as the most beautiful Aston Martin ever produced this is probably the car that many first think of when they consider a classic Bond car. It appeared in films such as Goldfinger, Thunderball and more recently GoldenEye.
The car was one of the first to feature special gadgets including:
- Ejector Seat
- Bullet Proof Shield
- Revolving Number Plates
- Twin-Machine Guns
- Extendable Tyre Slasher
In 2010, the actual DB5 from the Goldfinger movie including the many spy gadgets was sold at auction for £2.1Million. That’s nearly as much as Wednesday’s UK Lottery jackpot!
9. BMW Z8 - The World Is Not Enough
Car lovers will be saddened to know that this beautiful car ends up being cut in half by a helicopter with a very large saw. But not before we see it in action with fully kitted surface-to-air missiles and a very convenient key chain that lets you drive the car remotely.
8. Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante - The Living Daylights
Timothy Dalton may not have been everyone’s favourite Bond but that doesn’t mean we got short-changed when it came to the cars he drove. In classic Bond style MI6 were kind enough to outfit the car with gadgets fit for the wintery Russian terrain, including:
- Ice-gripping spikes on the tyres
- Extendable skis for extra grip on the snow
7. Sunbeam Alpine Series II – Dr. No
Included on the list because it was the very first Bond car to grace the silver screen. The car appeared in the original Bond film ‘Dr. No’ starring Sean Connery and Ursula Andress. The film is perhaps better remembered for Andress’ white bikini than it is for the Sunbeam convertible with the chassis so small that Bond is actually forced to drive with his elbow hanging out of the window.
6. BMW 750iL - Tomorrow Never Dies
It seems quite clear that the Pierce Brosnan era Bond had a love of the German BMW. He drove BMW’s in 3 of his 4 Bond films and this may very well have been the best of the bunch. With a 5.4 liter V12 under the hood the car featured all the extra features required by an international man of mystery:
- Electrified door handles
- A tear gas emitter
- Cable saw hidden under the hood badge
- Re-inflatable tyres
- An assortment of missiles mounted on the car’s sunroof
For many Bond fans and admirers of sophisticated motor vehicles everywhere these cars represent the very pinnacle of driving excellence. Would any of these make YOUR list of lottery winner cars?
More importantly, which Bond car will make it to number 1 on the list? Stay tuned for part 2 and don’t forget to place your entries for tonight’s €54 million Euromillions jackpot!
