A terrific lottery win happened in North West England in the village of Cumbria last week. A great grandfather managed to match the six main numbers in the draw of March 25th, Wednesday. Read further to discover his wonderful story which to him, was a win that came late, but better late than never at all!
The lucky man’s name is Robert Bruce, originally from Penrith who was one of three UK Lotto players who managed to win and split the top prize of £2,181,924. Each of the players got to take home the amount of £727,308 in total.
Robert Bruce is a former Gypsum worker who said that when he checked his numbers after the draw on Wednesday for the UK Lotto, he realised that he had won a share of the big Jackpot. He told reporters that he was in a state of utter shock and disbelief.
“It was one of those moments where you’re not sure if you are dreaming, awake, or dead,” he said with a light-hearted chuckle.
“I could not believe my eyes,” Mr. Bruce said, continuing to say that he actually had to take the initiative to ask his son to come over and double check for him. “After my boy said that he had indeed won and I had in fact matched all the six numbers, I just screamed with delight and Scott started screaming too. It was an amazing feeling. It felt as though the roof had lifted off the house and we had started sailing away into the sky!”
After confirming his win with his ecstatic son, Scott, he then proceeded to tell his two daughters who were equally as delighted, and Mr. Bruce then told the press that both of them cried on the phone upon hearing the wonderful news.
“You just keep thinking it can’t be true,” Bruce said, “things like this don’t happen to ordinary families like ours.”
Bruce is a tremendously dedicated family man with three children, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He told the media that he is so looking forward to using his UK Lotto winnings to take his entire family away on a holiday, and he has had a cruise on his mind recently.
“The first thing I will be doing is most definitely treating my family. Family always comes first,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to go on a family cruise, so this could be my chance to make that dream become a reality,” he said.
Mr. Bruce retired 25 years ago but has stayed in the town of Penrith, where his family is from originally, despite him coming from Scotland. He moved to Penrith is the year 1967. Mr. Bruce bought his winning UK Lotto ticket from a gas station that was located close by his house. The ecstatic UK Lotto winner said that he still finds the news unbelievable, and he has to keep pinching himself in order to come to terms that he in fact, is not dead, is not dreaming, and is not hallucinating either!
The last time a family from Cumbria won a big Jackpot prize was actually just before Christmas last year when a big EuroMillions Jackpot win meant an extra special Christmas for the Hammond family.
