A former taxi driver, Murray McKenzie, aged 63 has always had some trouble remembering his birthday’s but instead of proving a little embarrassing this time – his incorrect guess won him a substantial amount on the EuroMillions lottery on the 3rd October 2014.
Lucky number 13
After constantly playing his lucky lottery numbers for over the past two and a half years, Murray McKenzie, from Linton, mistakenly put in the wrong birth date of his son Thomas by just one day. Instead of selecting the 12th he played number 13, and won a whopping £215,228.30.

So it looks like lucky number 13 has proven itself once again. Numerologist’s will tell you that number 13 represents, creation, completion, order, advancement and mystery. Sounds exactly what you would expect from a lottery win - creating your own destiny, completing your lottery transaction and desire to win the jackpot, getting the order right, advancing further ahead and ultimately, enjoying all the mystery that a lottery win will bring.
Murray said: “It’s a bit embarrassing to admit that I had the wrong date for my son’s birthday but with £215,228.30 now in the family coffers, I think he’s prepared to forgive me.”
”I had been playing those numbers on and off for years but hadn't used them for a few months as I was choosing 'lucky dips' on the occasions I did play. I still do not know why at 8am last Tuesday I thought playing them was a good idea. I'm going to put it down to Lady Luck.”
Despite having won such a substantial amount on the EuroMillions lottery, both Murray and his wife Pat, a hairdresser, have absolutely no intention of retiring. Murray did say that he will be cutting back on his working hours though, and we jolly well hope so too.
The night of the EuroMillions win
While watching the National lottery, Murray remembered that he still had his EuroMillions ticket and decided to double check it. It was then that he realised that he had matched five main numbers and a lucky star number.
He said: "When I saw that five numbers had matched I checked and double-checked, and believing it was the wine making me fuzzy headed, I actually smacked the top of my head to make sure I wasn't seeing things."
The winning EuroMillions lottery numbers drawn on the 3rd October 2014 were: 04, 13, 23, 48, 50 and stars 05 and 10.
The lucky EuroMillions winners are happy that they will now be able to enjoy and care for their two children and four grandchildren. The couple said that they would not be buying a new house or a new car. Instead, they were going to spend more time with their family and make sure that everyone is cared for.
