Bizarre Animal Sports - Comments Competition

When we think about sports we conjure up images of football, motor-racing, cricket, gymnastics and many more. When we think about animal sports we think about horse racing, polo or dog racing.  We might even think about more controversial activities like bull fighting or dog fighting.

But think about it, if you were an animal, what sport would you prefer doing? Certainly not anything to do with fighting – that’s for sure.  After doing some investigation into the matter we came across some light-hearted and amusing sports that animal athletes are getting very good at.

Although they might not have multi-million dollar contracts, they are filling stadiums for the love of the game. From wind-surfing dogs, show-jumping pigs to skiing elephants – welcome to the world of animal athletes.

Surfs Up

The totally gnarly hounds showed off their skills on the bone yard in San Diego recently. Tails wagging and leashed up to their boards, fifty wavehounds took to the water and showed us how it’s done. Hanzo won the Petco Surf Dog competition at Imperial Beach in the large dog category.

Pig Olympics

These guys know how to bring home the bacon, in Russia’s annual Pig Olympics. These piggies run races, paddle through small pools and work as a team chasing soccer balls all in the hope of winning.

Windsurfing Pooch

These windsurfing mutts simply love being part of the gang and what might start off as a little scary quickly turns into enjoying the wind in your hair – because sometimes hanging your head out of the car window – just isn’t good enough.

Elephant waterskiing

Queenie, an Asian elephant was well known for waterskiing with her owner. She was extremely talented and stepped willingly into her skis. Once getting her balance they towed her out to sea where she would put her trunk in the water and get a big scoop of water and spray it all over the place! Another of Queenie's talents was playing the harmonica.

Snail races take place all over the world with these revered champions identified by a number, stuck on their back. They are then placed in the middle of a round, wooden table which is dampened with a water-spray.  The first competitor to reach the outside is the winner.

Although these little creatures tend to do thing’s at a snail’s pace, make sure you get your lucky lotto numbers in for tonight’s €195,000,000 SuperEna Max draw – and who knows, you might see yourself in the slime-light!

As a Jackal we are opportunistic omnivores, predators of small- to medium-sized animals and proficient scavengers. I have a physique well-suited for long-distance running, capable of maintaining speeds of 16 km/h (9.9 mph) for extended periods of time. We are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk. I would like to have a Hide and Seek sport with Rabbits because they survive predation by burrowing, hopping away in a zig-zag motion. the sport will be for day and night and the aim is to catch the rabbits.

Insect fighting Insect fighting is a popular activity in many Asian countries, and the practice actually dates back to China’s Tang Dynasty. A variety of insects are used in the fights, but some of the most popular are the stag beetle, rhinoceros beetle, praying mantis, grasshopper and goliath beetle — mostly because their size and jumping ability make them the most formidable opponents. Some bug owners even train their insects to become stronger and more aggressive by feeding them sugarcane and using female mating calls to excite them.

Turkey bowling This game — a popular annual event in some communities — involves using a frozen turkey in place of a bowling ball to knock down bowling pins. The game is usually played on ice rinks and has become fairly common at minor league hockey games in the U.S. and Canada. The frozen birds used in turkey bowling are typically discarded store turkeys not intended for consumption.

Ferret legging Ferret legging is essentially a contest to see who can keep a ferret in his pants the longest. The sport became popular with coal miners in Yorkshire, England, during the 1970s, and today it’s often seen at Celtic festivals. How do you play? The male-only contestants tie their pants at the ankles before placing a ferret inside and fastening their belts. Participants are not allowed to wear underwear, and the ferrets must have a full set of teeth. The winner is quite simply whoever lasts longest. Ferrets are natural tunnelers that enjoy confined spaces, and advocates of this bizarre sport say that it’s much more likely the competitor will be injured during the game than the ferret. However, one has to wonder if the ferret truly emerges emotionally unscathed after spending hours in the pants of a man who’s going commando.

In many villages of India People bring up ferocious cocks to fight on specific festivals/occasions. Sharp knife is securely tied to one of the legs of the cocks. Then these cocks are encouraged to fight. The most ferocious one wins, while in the fight it attacks the loser with the knife and wounds/or kills it. The owners of these cocks bet on their cocks and the spectators too place bets. Similarly there is Goat-fighting and Goat owners also place their goats in the fighting arena, with their horns sharpened/or ties with sharp knives. Huge bets are placed on the goats. However these have to be organized in a secret way as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals take action on these organizers

The first ,second and third runner will run back to their positions and keep on wagging tails till the race is over.. Ferret Legging is a weird sport popular among coal miners in Yorkshire, England. This game is a test of endurance or stunt in which ferrets are trapped in pants worn by a participant". This is a male-only competition where they put live ferrets inside their trousers; the winner is the one who is the last to release the animals. The world record is 5 hrs and 26 min, a feat achieved in 198. It is also known as Put 'em Down and Ferret-Down-Trousers.

The Parlor Roller and the Oriental Roller are breeds of domesticated pigeons. These breed of pigeons are known for their unique performance of turning somersaults on the ground. They show a variety of different figures in the air, which are single somersault, double somersaults, rolling, rotation with open wings, nose dives, sudden change of direction during flight and very rarely axial turns. For this reason,
