Winning Lotto Ticket Found in a Cookie Jar

It’s a simple story and thankfully one with a happy end – after months of lying hidden in a cookie jar a winning lottery ticket has finally been discovered and claimed.

Mother always warned you to keep your hands out of the cookie jar – at least until after dinner. In this case however, mom was wrong.

A USA man, Ricardo Cerezo, has had his world turned upside down (in a good way) when he discovered that one of the old lottery tickets lying unchecked in his daughter's cookie jar was worth a cool $4.85 million.

Thankfully for Mr. Cerezo, his wife is both diligent and dutiful when it comes to ensuring old lotto tickets don’t go unchecked. She noticed eleven tickets sitting in an old cookie jar at their Chicago home and promptly sent Mr. Cerezo out to check if any of them were winners.

With minimal expectations Mr. Cerezo took his old tickets to the corner store where he was awestruck to discover one of them was worth $4.85 million. The first 9 tickets he checked were not winning tickets, the 10th ticket was the lucky one and dated back to a lotto draw held on February 2nd.

To think that he had a winning lottery ticket worth millions sitting hidden away in an old cookie jar is absolutely unbelievable. It also begs the question of whether his fortunes would have remained unchanged if his wife had simply tossed the tickets out?

“It was either take them, get them checked, or she was going to trash them that night,” said Mr. Cerezo to a local newspaper.

The win comes at the perfect time for the Cerezo family who were facing foreclosure of their home at the time of the big win.

This is a classic example of why playing the lottery online is the safer option. Here at your tickets are automatically checked after every draw ensuring that you never have to suffer the fate of one Euromillions winner whose winning ticket remained unclaimed.

This poor ticket holder did not even know that they had been sitting on a gold mine. When it comes to playing the lotto offline that is unfortunately how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

All winning ticket holders on are informed after the draw by our support staff. Winners of amounts larger than £200 will receive a personal phone call to advise them.

As Mr. Cerezo stated at the press conference announcing his win: “Check your old tickets!”
