We love hearing about what multimillionaires have and do, from the fancy Rolex watches they wear, through to the amazing supercars they drive, but the question is: what do multimillionaires eat? Well, anything they want really. There are some taste experiences however that are reserved for the super-wealthy and today PlayHugeLottos is investigating what the world’s most expensive culinary delights are, from ingredients to jaw-dropping meals.
5 of the world’s most expensive ingredients:
1. Invest in gold or you can eat some of it
You may think that it would be unwise to eat gold, but just like calcium and magnesium, this mineral is safe to eat. Often you will see edible gold on cakes or even topping the rims of champagne flutes for effect.
According to CNN Money you can get 150 milligrams of edible gold for $45. This doesn’t sound like a lot but this translates to around $15,000 for 0.45kg.
2. Matsutake mushrooms - a rare find
This incredibly rare mushroom is found in other parts of the world, but most specifically originates from Japan. Known for its rich, aromatic meaty texture and flavour, these mushrooms can set you back at US $2000 per kilogram. The reason the price is so high is due to the fact that there is usually only an annual harvest of about 1000 tonnes.
3. Almas caviar, a Guinness World Record holder
Almas caviar holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive caviar. This caviar is special because of its golden colour and comes from a rare-breed of albino sturgeon in Iran called the Iranian sturgeon. If that’s not appealing enough, this caviar comes in a 24-carat gold tin and will cost you US $25,000.
5. Do you like eating chicken? How about a chicken that costs £1,990?
Ayam Cemani chickens are a species of chicken found exclusively in Indonesia. This rare bird species meat is said to cure illnesses and bring anyone who eats its meat good fortune. It is also extremely unique in terms of its look as everything about the chicken is black, leading some to call it the Goth Chicken. From its feathers through to its bones, muscles and even its organs. Would you try it?
6. Donkey cheese anyone?
We know that there are many varieties of cheese that people have come to love, mostly coming from the milk of cows or goats, but have you ever heard of donkey cheese? This white cheese hails from Serbia and can sell for as much as US $2,008 per kilo. It’s made from the milk of an endangered Balkan donkey found in a sanctuary in Zasavica.
