Whenever you see a huge lottery jackpot advertised in the papers or the news, it’s hard not to think about what you would do if you had millions of pounds just waiting to be collected. Some people would be responsible and pay off their debts before investing their money to grow their wealth, while others would do something like buy cars and go on several holidays a year. Of course, we can’t exactly tell you what to do with your winnings because they’re yours after all! But there’s often more to the spending spree than people first assume.
A recent survey showed that just over half of Britain’s working class would actually want to continue working at their jobs even if they had mega millions in the bank. It sounds crazy, but 15% of the people that didn’t want to continue working would actually want to use their winnings to resign from their current job and switch to their dream career!
It goes to show that even with millions in the bank, satisfaction doesn’t just come from your wealth. The reason people love their jobs is that it helps to define them, it builds character and it helps to motivate them through life. Imagine waking up and having absolutely no cares in the world but a lot of money. Most people would love it, but plenty of millionaires feel lonely sitting on their wealth with nothing to really do.
Just think about all the famous actors and singers that we’ve seen on TV. Despite having a huge amount of wealth accumulated from their performances and royalties, we still see them writing new songs and taking part in new shows and it’s all because their job gives their life meaning. Without having a purpose, life can get incredibly boring!
People that win the lottery often think about splashing their cash and getting everything they’ve wanted to, but the reality is that they probably have a negative view of work due to bad experiences in their workplaces, hence why they don’t enjoy it and would love to quit. However, that’s simply because they haven’t found a job they love. Many people that win the lottery even say that they would like to start their own company to do something helpful, and some even use their winnings to help those in need such as donating to charities or even starting up a company that helps those who are less fortunate.
At the end of the day, you’re free to do whatever you want with your winnings, but there’s a reason why over half of the working class will choose to continue working even after they win the lottery. Money isn’t everything in life and if you’re lucky enough to win the lottery, you’ll realize that there are plenty of productive ways to spend your winnings so that you can change the world, contribute to society or even make some of your childhood dreams come true.
