Overwhelmed NZ Powerball Winner Ends Up In Hospital

Earlier this month, Lou Te Keeti from Tauranga in New Zealand won a whopping $10.3 million New Zealand Powerball jackpot. This kind of news would make anyone overwhelmed, but this winner, in particular, had difficulty processing the news and landed himself in hospital soon after!

The NZ Powerball winner won their fortune in the draw that took place on the 8th of July 2017. At first, like so many other players in the past, the winner thought the big news was a hoax and couldn’t quite believe it until he saw the money reflecting in his account.

Although Lou had just become a millionaire, he still went out to buy his groceries like ordinary folks. That’s when he started to have the “flutters”. The NZ Powerball winner recalled that he wasn’t feeling like himself and was actually feeling quite strange. He called the ambulance to come fetch him so he could have some tests done on him. He eventually ended up staying the night in Tauranga Hospital before they knew what was wrong with him and could release him.

You’d think he asked for some extra special treatment considering he’d just won a $10.3 million New Zealand Powerball jackpot, but he didn’t tell any of the hospital staff what had recently happened to him. One doctor concluded that he was simply in a state of “euphoria” that was simply overwhelming for him. That’s what made him feel strange.

To top things off, the winner isn’t young, to begin with. They are 70-years-old. They are going to plan an extra special 50th-anniversary wedding with his wife next year, their four children and seven grandchildren. The NZ Powerball winner’s plans are to take care of himself and his family. He wants to replace the home he and his wife Val have lived in for the past 30 years and move into a much larger house so they will have more room for activities when their grandchildren come to stay with them.

The winner hired some architects and designers for this new project, but his wife told him she no longer wanted to indulge in any “fancy plans”. She told her husband that having a massive house is not like them and they want to keep their usual routines the same.

They will be using their money to enjoy more of the freedoms that becoming a millionaire allows. For example, they will be going to the Melbourne Cup and have decided to buy some race horses. “It’s a passion that brings us together, so we will probably end up doing that,” said the winner.

The winner also wants a new car and to start playing golf again. He also wants to help his local church fix the pathways in the community’s cemetery.
