Dog Lover Wins £1m On The Lotto

Funny how life works…. The minute you write about a couple of awesome dogs, ta-da – a bartender goes out to buy some dog food and wins the Lotto!

22-year-old, Lewis Rider popped into the Permier Stor on Grange Villa, Durham to buy his dog, Marley some food. With his spare change Lewis also decided to buy a Millionaire 777 scratchcard.

Lewis said: “I still can’t really believe it; it doesn’t feel real.

“I had some spare change leftover so just decided to by the scratchcard on a whim. I was walking home from the shop, scratching off the panel as I looked down and saw that I had won.

“I stared at it for a few seconds and then the penny dropped that I’d hit the big time. I suddenly came over all faint and I just couldn’t believe my eyes.”

Realising that he had won £1m on a National Lottery scratch card, Lewis called his mum, Clair, and asked her to come pick him up.  He didn’t tell her why and waited until the whole family were together first, before telling them the incredible news!

Clair said: “It just feels unreal.

“I thought he was lying when he first told me; I didn’t really know what was happening. I’m still struggling to believe it.”
The best birthday present ever!

The lotto win couldn’t have come at a better time, as Lewis will be celebrating his 23rd birthday on the 7th September.

"It's hard to believe that I'm going to be a 23-year-old millionaire."

Lewis also went on to say that the lottery win was a “life-changing occurrence” and that he wants to treat his mum and dad to a holiday.

It’s not just mum and dad that will be enjoying themselves on holiday, as Lewis has also booked a trip for himself and his brother for a week.

His future

Whenever we hear about a young person winning the lottery, we do tend to get slightly nervous and hope they make the right decisions about their windfall.

Thankfully, Lewis as already stated that he will not ‘splash all his cash,’ and intends to invest some of it for his future.
“I’ve been handed a golden opportunity. I mean, how many people my age have a million quid in the bank?

“I certainly want to enjoy myself but I also want to get on the property ladder too.”

Whatever happens though, the latest lottery winner says, "I think I'm going to be the happiest 23-year-old on the planet and I intend to savour every minute."

There are so many ways of killing a cat - so the old saying goes. He is completely lucky and I hope he will spend the win so that his children will appreciate this. Sometimes things happen without putting them on the plan. Lucky Him.
