Strong ticket sales boosted the jackpot yesterday, causing the $485 million Powerball jackpot to swell to a magnificent $500 million hours before the draw and then again to $564 million.
Last night's $564 million Powerball was the third-largest jackpot in the history of Powerball, and the nation's fifth-highest multi-state game jackpot.
$564 million Powerball Results
The winning US Powerball numbers for the 11th February 2015 were: 11 – 13 - 25 – 39 - 54 and the Powerball number 19.
Lottery enthusiasts around the world, waited in bated breath to see if their lucky lotto numbers were drawn. A few hours ago, three winning tickets were confirmed, 1 in North Carolina, one in Puerto Rico and another in Texas! For those who took part in the Powerball action and had entries into last night’s Powerball draw, remember that we purchase Powerball tickets in Connecticut. Therefore, the winning tickets will always come from an American state. The three lucky winners will be splitting the staggering $564 million Powerball jackpot. Should the winners select the lump sum option, each would get a one-third share of $381,138,450.16 before taxes. The other option is an annuity, under which the lottery would make payments 30 times over 29 years.
Sue Dooley, a senior drawing manager and production coordinator for the Multi-State Lottery said the Puerto Rico ticket was in fact the first Powerball jackpot winner ever sold outside the continental United States. Not bad going, considering that Puerto Rico joined Powerball less than a year ago!
Early Thursday morning, the Texas Lottery posted on Twitter that one of the winning numbers had been sold in Appletree Food Mart in Texas. At this stage, there’s still no information with regards to the winners in North Carolina and Puerto Rico.
With the implementation of a few changes that Powerball made in 2012 such as ticket prices and lowering the odds of winning the jackpot, we now see Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots repeatedly climb to record levels. The largest payout in U.S. history was to three ticketholders in the Mega Millions game, the other national lottery drawing. That was a $656 million prize won in March 2012 by players in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.
The jackpot now goes back to $40 million for the next drawing on Saturday.
