There’s something about Italy that gets us super excited. We’re not talking about the glorious Colosseum or even the magic of the Trevi fountain, it’s SuperEna lotto of course! Known as one of the most romantic countries in the world we decided to uncover a bit more about this special Italian lottery institute during the month of love.
This exciting Italian lottery is so iconic that it has inspired the creation of similar lotteries like our very own, SuperEna Max. What is it about this lottery that thrills and delights players so much? Let’s learn more about this lottery today.
How it all started:
The SuperEnalotto lottery started back in the 1950s and was originally named Ena lotto, which means “national lottery” in English. In 1997 SISAL decided to change the name to SuperEnalotto and reconfigure the game but kept most of the gameplay the same. Initially, the game was drawn by drawing 1 number from each of the following Italian cities: Bari, Florence, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome and Venice. The number drawn in Venice was specifically reserved for the Jolly number or extra bonus ball. Drawing numbers from all these cities meant that numbers could be duplicated. In July 2009, draws were centralized and were only held in Rome.
SuperEnalotto draws on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. If a draw is set to happen on a public holiday, the draw is moved. Players have to choose 6 numbers from 1 to 90. You don’t need to select an extra ball when selecting your numbers for the Jolly number as this number is only applicable if you match 5 of the 6 main balls. If you match all six numbers you win the Jackpot. If you match five numbers plus the Jolly number. Unlike other lotteries, SuperEnalotto has no jackpot caps which means the jackpot can reach astronomical heights.
