Lots of people all over the world have had their lives changed by lottery winnings. Lottery winners can choose to receive their winning cash in an annuity payment (yearly/monthly payments over 30 years) or to get it all at once in a single amount.
Here are some of the top lottery prizes ever won:
1. $1.586 billion (US Powerball)
There were three winning entries for the biggest lottery jackpot in history, which was drawn on January the 13th, 2016.
The Robinson's in Tennessee, the Kaltschmidt's in Florida, and the Acosta's in California all won the jackpot! Each family had the option of either receiving $533 million as an annuity payment or $327.8 million as a lump-sum payment.
The Robinson's opted to take the lump sum. The Kaltschmidt's also picked the lump sum. They said that they plan to get massages, upgrade their trucks and retire with their newfound wealth.
The Acosta's remained anonymous for months after winning, but later revealed their identity and released a vague statement saying that they were thankful for the rare gift that had been placed in their care. They did not say what they would do with the money or how they would receive it.
