No one knows when luck will shine on them and they will win the Powerball lottery. Powerball is a multi-state lottery in the US and was the very first game to use two drums to draw winning numbers: one for the white balls and one for the red. Players can buy tickets at participating retailers and can also play Powerball online. Winners are drawn on Wednesday and Saturday nights and the draws are held in Florida. Players can find the winning numbers drawn on the television, the Powerball website, across newspapers and online. The jackpot can be won when all five white balls in any order are matched, along with the red Powerball.
There are 69 white balls to choose from and 26 red balls and when players play Powerball online, they must choose five white and one red ball - indecisive players can have the lottery machine choose their balls for them. Players can check their numbers with their local store clerk, where they played Powerball online, in the newspapers and even on a lottery app - making it easier to check on the go.
Lottery winners are considered to be extremely lucky, except for the woman in Michigan who almost threw out a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket! The self-scanning machine that was supposed to read the ticket wasn’t able to tell her that her ticket was a Powerball winner, and that ticket almost ended up in the trash.
Delaine Passucci, 47, realised that she had matched four of the lottery balls that she needed to win the Powerball but her local grocery store machine wasn’t having a good day. The store in Pinckney had a malfunctioning machine that led Delaine to believe that she didn’t have the fortune that she thought she did. “I had a few tickets for this particular draw and the self-scanner couldn’t tell me if I was a winner”, she said, “So, I put the ticket back in my wallet to try again later, and the machine was still malfunctioning and couldn’t confirm my win.”
A few weeks later, she tried again and still, the machine wasn’t working correctly. This was the moment that Delaine almost threw her ticket in the trash when a flash of inspiration came over here: check the ticket with the clerk! “I was just about to toss it away when I thought that I should have the clerk scan it for me,” says Delaine, “The clerk told me I would need to contact the lottery office to claim my prize and that was the moment that I realised that I had won more than the self-scanner could give me!”
Delaine won with 4 matching white balls and the Powerball, enabling her to share some of her winnings with her friends and her church.
