Since we last checked-in with the Euro 2012 tournament there has been much European football excitement for all the loyal supporters.
Last week Friday, 15th June Ukraine played France, unbeaten in 6 games against them. Unfortunately Ukraine didn’t manage to break the pattern with France scoring two quick goals 3 minutes apart in the 2nd half, securing them a place in the quarter finals. Ukraine then went on to lose to England on Tuesday night in what many might consider a somewhat controversial game.
In the 62nd minute, Ukraine’s Marko Devic took a shot to goal. The ball went pass England’s goalkeeper and appeared to cross the line before John Terry kicked it away. Unfortunately for the Ukraine, the referee didn’t call the goal and head coach Oleg Blokhin was an extremely angry man. Who can blame him? With this loss, Ukraine was eliminated from the tournament.
Breaking Ukrainian hearts...
In the last group game of the 2012 tournament Sweden played against France. France was already through to the quarter finals whilst Sweden had already been eliminated from the tournament. Despite having nothing to play for, Sweden played a fantastic game. Sebastian Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the goals for Sweden and ended the game with a 2-0 victory over the French.
